TRWD recently received a 2010 Texas Environmental Excellence Award from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for its regional water conservation efforts.
The presentation was made to TRWD Board President Victor Henderson and Community and Government Relations Director Linda Christie during a May 5 TCEQ banquet in Austin.
“We are thrilled to accept such a prestigious award from the state recognizing our efforts to promote water conservation in North Texas,” said Christie. “TRWD looks forward to continuing its leadership role in preserving and conserving one of our most precious natural resources.”
TRWD and Dallas Water Utilities teamed up in 2007 for a regional water conservation campaign called “Save Water. Nothing Can Replace It.” This extensive media effort featured television, print and radio advertisements, as well as billboards along some of North Texas’ busiest highways.
In addition, the district has worked closely with its customer cities and legislators to promote water conservation awareness through informational symposiums and the creation of a water conservation committee. TRWD also is developing a five-year strategic plan that will evaluate current initiatives and provide a road map for future programs and policies.
